Overview

Planet Cube: Edge is a 2D run-and-gun platformer that emphasizes precision platforming, wrapped in a retro pixel-art aesthetic reminiscent of the Game Boy era. The story centers around Edge, a cube-shaped engineer who suddenly finds himself at the heart of a massive invasion on Planet Cube. Alongside his quirky teammates and the brilliant Dr. Quadratus, Edge must save his world through a sprawling underwater research facility. While the plot is simple, it’s brought to life with light-hearted dialogue and quirky characters that make the experience fun and engaging.

Gameplay

In terms of gameplay, Planet Cube: Edge delivers a tight mix of running, shooting, jumping, and quick dashing. These mechanics demand fast reflexes and precise control. A fast respawn system and frequent checkpoints make the learning curve feel fair, allowing players to learn from their mistakes without frustration. Epic boss battles — four in total — add satisfying variety and intense moments. For those who enjoy replayability, the game includes hidden collectibles, an art and audio gallery, and a speedrun leaderboard.

Level Design

The game features eight long, varied levels — from underwater chambers and high-speed train rides to alien spaceship battles. Each level progresses in difficulty, starting with more forgiving platforming and gradually ramping up to high-precision challenges. While generally well-designed, some players feel certain areas can become repetitive and a bit too lengthy, which may slow the pacing at times.

Graphics & Visual Design

Visually, Planet Cube: Edge shines with its detailed two-tone pixel art, evoking a distinct Game Boy-style atmosphere. Environments like the underwater world, mechanical crab enemies, and massive tank bosses are all rendered with impressive attention to detail. Character and enemy animations are smooth and expressive, breathing life into the game and reinforcing its retro-modern style.

Difficulty

This is not a casual gamePlanet Cube: Edge is quite challenging, featuring pixel-perfect jumps, deadly traps, and aggressive enemies. However, the game feels fair to many players due to its fast respawns and steadily escalating difficulty. As a result, reviews are mixed — some praise its satisfying classic platforming, while others find it more exhausting than enjoyable.
